UCI Gravel World Championship 2023

UCI Gravel World Championship 2023

The second edition shows a new course. We had a look at the 9 climbs to see if we can spot some break-away options.

Overall, looking at the GPX file in Google Maps, there does not seem to be much off road. It looks like tarmac is the vast majority. The organization did not reveal any info on the percentage of road/off-road, so we are not sure.

Here you can and download GPX files from the organization →

Here is our Google map with the GPX route for Men Elite →

Let's start with a view of the entire course.

And now let's have a look at the climbs.

Back to blog

#1 Collalto

@32km → 2.4km - 4.8%

Nothing too crazy on the Collalto. Starts off on tarmac and changes to some hardpack.

#2 Arfanta

@58km → 3.6km - 4.9%

Another tarmac climb. Even though it is rated at 5%, we do see some steeper sections.

#3 Nogarolo

@74km → 0.7km - 11.6%

Take a hard left turn to go up a tarmac climb. It is narrow and goes up to almost 12%. And after that steep section the climb still continues at a lower grade.

#4 Formeniga

@84km → 1.1km - 6.8%

Yeahhh, some gravel 💪🏼. Mi piace 💚

#5 Ca' del Poggio

@87km → 1.2km - 12.3%

Super smooth tarmac climb, but steep enough to get an early break?

#6 San Vigilio

@143km → 0.4km - 15.5%

We are well into the race when we reach marker 143. Still 26km to go, but San Vigilio offers the steepest climb of the race at 15.5%. This could be the chance for those with fresh and strong legs to make a getaway?

#7 Le Serre

@150km → 2.4km - 6.3%

Le Serre also shows some steep sections.

#8 Le Tenade

@153km → 0.9km - 6.5%

Le Tenade follows quickly. Looks steeper in the beginning and then still goes up for quite a bit.

#9 Collagu'

@162km → 1.7km - 11.8%

The last climb of the day!

This is an intersting section. Street View doesn't show a good part of the climb, but it goes into the forest. We do see sharp turns and steep climbs on gravel or even soft pack/earth.

The section beforehand is a bit of climbing, so you need to be in a good position before reaching the forest.

Once you get out of the forest it is all fast and downhill or flat. Some super sharp corners require some extra concentration. But the finish line is not far away.....

Finish 🚴🏼‍♀️💨
